SHOWCASE VID KEYBOARD OVERLAY
WHAT IS THIS?
This is a gamepad fx script designed for keyboard players to drive with ease, precision, and fun at the competitive level.
INTRO
Adapted from my previous ARCADE FX controller assist https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/arcade-fx-the-thumb-rider.59373/, This script also handles quite arcady and does make the keyboard more competitive, but don't expect miracles.
KEY FEATURES
1. Steer Smoothness
Attempts to eliminate the twitchy feel of tap steering as long as driving with proper technique, though it may take some time getting used to
2. Custom Input Curve
No more of that "binary' feel with the keyboard. The "0 or 1" inputs make the driving experience twitchy and less enjoyable. This script modifies the input curves to make the key press feel like analog triggers or pedals. If you've played carX on keyboard, think of "gas linearity".
3. Balanced Stability & Freedom
The car remains dead stable within normal driving range, but can also be easily pushed to its limits when you like. Initiate oversteer, flicking, slip angle, shift locking, or even spin out if you want to.
4. Can Easily Extend Drifts
Unlike other A7-based scripts for keyboard, you get a lot more precision with this one, allowing you to extend and correct drifts without trouble.
5. Dynamic ABS
Brake will be slightly damped out when wheels are about to lock up. Not a perfect implementation though.
WHY MAKE THIS?
After more than a decade (since childhood) without gaming , I've been going through some rough patches in life recently and somehow embraced gaming once again. I started out playing Assetto Corsa on my keyboard, realizing how difficult that was, then transitioned to gamepad b4 long. But I do believe non-hardcore-simracers and casual players who can't afford a wheel also DESERVE to enjoy the beauty of AC while being semi-competitive if not competitive. With that thought, I set out to make this happen with 0 knowledge in coding, needless to say this was a real painful journey.
HOW TO INSTALL
Prerequisites
*** Make sure you have a controller emulator (I used Keyboard Splitter). Here is a very helpful step-by-step guide to help you set up Keyboard Splitter (by Frans Gaming Low ):
note: the script linked in Frans Gaming Low video is not mine, it is an old version A7.
*** Make sure you have CSP 1.78 or newer as well as Content Manager
Two Steps
1. Drop the "extension" folder into your Assetto Corsa root directory.
2. Activate gamepad fx : Content Manager settings -> Custom Shader Patch Tab -> Gamepad FX (among the long list on the left) -> Tick "Active" and select from "Script Used"
SETTINGS
Grip: Speed Sensitivity 100
Drift: Speed Sensitivity 10
Traction Control OFF
ABS OPTIONAL (already has mild abs)
Stability Control 0%
The other settings don't matter.
Have fun!
