Charterhall Airfield is a historic racing circuit in the Scottish Borders and is one of the venues where Jim Clark started his racing career. Originally built as an airbase during World War One, racing ran here from the early 50s to 1964 when Ingliston outside Edinburgh Airport became the main venue for Scottish motor racing.
The airfield has been derelict for decades, occasionally being used as a round of the Borders Rally. Part of it can be used to land light aircraft but it remains a dormant relic.
The original track used the bottom half of the airfield in a clockwise direction, but I felt it such a shame that the whole thing couldn't be used, so I created an alternative universe where some mad billionaire or an Arab oil sheik with a penchant for Scotland and motor racing creates a full race track on the site.
The basic idea was that the circuit configurations should be anti-clockwise and that it should be able to host major series, but in my mind the only way F1 cars would run here would be for test sessions and nothing else.
Again this is a VERY basic proof of concept - generally when I was testing it the default runway roads were very simple (and fast) plus I don't know what sort of layout would be good to test handling. The ZIP includes some potential layouts based on the roads that are already there.
Feel free to develop this further if you'd like, as long as you keep it anti-clockwise and give some credit to myself. I don't know if the files will work in AC for everyone but it's better than nothing I suppose.
1 pitbox, HEINOUSLY basic graphics, Blender and ksEditor files all included.
Look for the folder "charterhall_21112023LongCircuitWalls" and copy it into your AC tracks folder.
