This is a mod designed to replicate the 2012 F1 season using the Database Editor accurately. It includes all drivers on the grid at the time, along with the high-profile feeder series and junior drivers of the era portrayed in their 2012 selves.
The player starts at a created team (Caterham), although if you want to start as a different team you can use the F1 Manager Save Browser (https://save.f1setup.it/) and use the "Switch Team" option.
Calendar
The calendar is mostly accurate to the real-life 2012 schedule with a few substitutions for tracks that aren't in the game:
The Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang has been replaced by the Losail International Circuit as the tracks are fairly alike and have a similar geographical location makes no difference in the game.
The European Grand Prix at Valencia has been replaced by the Baku City Circuit as it also hosted the same race four years later and is a street course.
The German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring has been replaced by the Red Bull Ring, as the tracks are in a similar region and their characteristics are fairly comparable too.
The Korean Grand Prix at Yeongam has been replaced by the Miami International Autodrome as they have some similar traits.
The Indian Grand Prix at Buddh has been replaced by Zandvoort as it has similar characteristics.
Drivers and their Ratings/Contracts
The driver lineup follows the early 2012 season, and the HRT team, which doesn't exist in this database, has had their four contracted drivers released (Narain Karthikeyan, Pedro de la Rosa, Dani Clos and Ma Qinghua).
I have adjusted all the ratings of drivers that exist in the vanilla database that were prominent in 2012, as well as altering the identities of countless vanilla drivers that are unlikely to play a part in most saves.
All prominent drivers who took part in a Grand Prix from 2008-2017 are included, along with all who took part in Free Practice during 2012 and anyone in an academy, as well as drivers from other series.
I adjusted each driver's stats and ratings on a mix of where they were at in their career up to 2012 (particularly for junior series drivers), and my assessment of their talent.
If you disagree with a rating, feel free to let me know so I can see if I made a mistake, so I can update the mod to your guys' liking.
Every driver assigned to a team either on a full-time basis or by affiliate status has had their contract details automatically filled out by the Editor, as exact details from the time are hard to come by.
Notable GP2/GP3 and other young talents have been included to give a proper feeling of 2012, meaning that it is a reduced but still very healthy driver pool.
Please also note that due to limitations with the Database Editor, some driver's nationalities may be incorrect.
Prominent examples include Pastor Maldonado being Colombian and Rio Haryanto being Singaporean.
Furthermore, I have limited experience with the development of drivers below the age of 16, so anyone below that may grow very quickly and become overpowered in a few seasons.
If this is the case I will update this mod, just let me know so I can fix it.
Performance and Cars/Engines
The teams' cars and engines have been adjusted to their 2012 performance, although their in-game identities are unchangeable.
The 2012 versions of each outfit correspond with their real-life lineage to 2024.
Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, Williams and Sauber remain the same.
The following lineage represents each team:
Mercedes -> BAR
Aston Martin -> Force India
Alpine -> Lotus
VCARB -> Toro Rosso
Haas -> Marussia
All teams have been updated to their 2012 engine suppliers, with custom units supplied by Cosworth for Marussia.
