PC1 Fanatec Podium F1 DD1 PS4 wheel not detected by Project Cars 1 on PS4 pro

My Fanatec Podium F1 DD1 PS4 wheel is not detected by Project Cars 1 on my PS4 pro.
Fanatec has referred me to the game developers, which is not helpful as the game does not have its own technical support any more..

According to Fanatec's own published compatibility list, Project Cars 1 should work in playstation compatibility mode, see https://fanatec.com/eu-en/faq/details/id/116
But no matter what button I press in the game's startup screen, nothing happens. I tried all compatability modes, including of course the PS4/PS5 compatibility mode.

I have the following firmware: wheelbase 3.0.4.3 steering wheel 33. I also tried downgrading to earlier firmware: Wheelbase 653, wheelbase motor 30, Steering Wheel 27. This did not work.

Please let me know if you had similar issue (and solved it) or if you have an idea?
